This moment in Korea's history was the beginning of the great Leader President Kim Il Sung's tireless struggle to restore national unity.
Having defeated the Japanese imperialists on August 15, Juche 34 (1945) and liberated the fatherland, President Kim Il Sung built the new democratic Korea in the country's northern half and founded the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) on September 9, Juche 37 (1948).
But the illegal and criminal occupation of south Korea by the US imperialists let him no quiet moment and made him very sad. His resolute determination to wipe out the Yankee occupiers from the southern half of the fatherland and to reunify it became his life-long sacred goal and aspiration.
From the moment of national division until the end of his great life on July 8, Juche 83 (1994) the great Leader President Kim Il Sung proclaimed many historic initiatives and proposals for national reunification.
The Joint Conference of Political Parties and Public Organisations in North and South Korea in April Juche 37 (1948) in Pyongyang was organized on the initiative of President Kim Il Sung and presided over by him. There he united compatriots from different walks of life and different political views and ideologies for the cause of the great common goal of national reunification.
President Kim Il Sung always fought for an independent reunification without any foreign interference. He underlined the importance to reject energetically any collaboration with outside forces and to follow the Juche-based line of national reunification and great national unity.
He clarified the Three Principles of National Reunification - independence, peaceful reunification and great national unity - in Juche 61 (1972).Thanks to the implementation of these principles, the July 4 North-South Joint Statement (1972) was published.
In October Juche 69 (1980) President Kim Il Sung published the historic Proposal for Founding the Democratic Federal Republic of Koryo (DFRK). He said:
Our Party maintains that the country should be reunified by founding a Federal Republic through the establishment of a unified national government on the condition that the north and the south recognize and tolerate each other's ideas and social systems, a government in which the two sides are represented on an equal footing and under which they exercise regional autonomy with equal rights and duties.
It would be a good idea to call the federal state the Democratic Federal Republic of Koryo, after a united state that once existed in our country and is well known to the world; such a name will also serve to reflect the common political aspirations of the north and south for democracy. Developing the federal formula into depths, he proclaimed the 10-Point Programme of the Great Unity of the Whole Nation for the Reunification of the Country in April Juche 82 (1993).
Till the last days of his great and glorious life, President Kim Il Sung never forgot even for a minute his sacred aspiration for national reunification. On July 7, Juche 83 (1994) - only one day before his great heart stopped to beat - he signed his last document to appeal for a soon reunification with “KIM IL SUNG, July 7, 1994.” The words in this historic document with his signature are engraved in a revolutionary site in Panmunjom.
Thanks to the loyal application of President Kim Il Sung's propasals and initiatives for national reunification by leader Kim Jong Il, two historic north-south summit meetings took place in Pyongyang in June Juche 89 (2000) and in October Juche 96 (2007) respectively. During these epoch-making breakthroughs two documents were signed - the July 15 North-South Joint Declaration and the October 4 Declaration.
With the publication of these inter-Korean declarations Chairman Kim Jong Il crowned President Kim Il Sung's life-long combat for the independent reunification of the fatherland with a shining and brillant victory. The great patriotic idea of “By Our Nation Itself” was born. Unfortunately, neither President Kim Il Sung nor leader Kim Jong Il could see the realization of their sacred cause of national reunification. But it's completely sure that the dear respected Marshal Kim Jong Un will reunify the Korean nation without fail in the next future.
The Korean people yearn more than ever the great President Kim Il Sung. He was the lodestar of national reunification and the beloved father of the nation and the people.
All defenders of the DPRK - in the front-line the dignified Korean Friendship Association (KFA) - and all followers of the Juche idea and the Songun idea all over the world hold in highest esteem the great President Kim Il Sung as the pioneer of global independence.
The great Leader President Kim Il Sung is immortal and lives eternally in the hearts of the Korean people and the world progressives.
Korea is not and will never be without President Kim Il Sung and leader Kim Jong Il! The dear respected Marshal Kim Jong Un is absolutely identical with them. ***
