One hundred and six years ago from now (April 15, 1912) is the birthday of President Kim Il Sung. The day is recorded in the bold letters in the history of the Korean nation, for it commenced the rebirth of the Korean nation and a new history of socialist Korea.
National Rebirth
The Korean People suffered the tragic fate of colonial slavery under the military occupation of Japan 1905 to 1945.
During their rule, the Japanese imperialists blustered that the Koreans must obey Japanese laws of die, and tried recklessly to violate and obliterate the Korean nation. They randomly arrested and killed the Korea patriots, destroyed and plundered the natural resources and cultural heritage, and even forced the Korean people to change their names to Japanese ones.
The Korean nation’s time honoured history spanning 5 000 years was facing the grave perils of being cut off. At this critical junction, Kim Il Sung(1912-1994), emerged as a great saviour of the nation.
He set out on the road of revolutionary struggle to liberate Korea in his early teens, and illuminated the path of the Korean revolution in the historic Kalun Meeting held in June 1930
He put forth a line of accomplishing the cause of national liberation by waging armed struggle relying on their own struggle, neither by seeking help from others nor by peaceful means. To this end, he organized the Anti-Japanese People’ s Guerrilla on April 25, 1932, declaring a war against the Japanese imperialists.
The anti-Japanese armed struggle Kim Il Sung organized and led for over a decade, without any state rear nor support from a regular army, was the most arduous but heroic struggle.
Japanese imperialists, advocating a slogan of “Greater East Asia Co-prosperity Sphere” in pursuit of realizing their wild dream for gaining the world hegemony, likened the Korean guerrilla army fighting against them to a “drop in the ocean.” However, Kim Il Sung defeated them by employing unique strategics and adroit guerrilla tactics, thus accomplishing the cause of national independence.
The Korean people greeted a new dawn of national rebirth after suffering a bitter lot of a ruined nation scores of years.
Socialist Korea
Korea’ s liberation opened up a broad road for the Korean people to build a new society.
Under the leadership of Kim Il Sung they carried out successfully the anti- imperialist, anti- feudal democratic revolution through agrarian reform, nationalization of major industries, enforcement of Law on Sex Equality and so on. They also founded the Democratic People’ s Republic of Korea, the first Democratic state for the people in the East.
When the United States, having boasted of its being the “strongest” in the world, started a war (1950-1953) against the DPRK in an attempt to nip it in the bud, the Korean people inflicted an ignominious defect on the US for the first time in its history, thus defending their national sovereignty and dignity.
They completed the postwar rehabilitation and socialist revolution within a short period and conducted several stages of socialist construction to develop their country into a socialist power independent, self-supporting and self-reliant in national defence.
A people-centered socialist system was established by Kim Il Sung and further strengthened under the leadership of Kim Jong Il(1942-2011).
Perfect and thoroughgoing free medical care system and compulsory free education of the highest standard are being effected in the DPRK. Dwelling houses are built at state expense and provided to its citizens free of charge, and they are also entitled to such social benefits as paid leave and accommodation at health resorts and holiday homes at state expense. The DPRK has become the first country in the world that abolished its taxation system once and for all.
Socialist Korea has given the fullest play to its immortal viability and inexhaustible vitality.
In the closing years of the last century several countries that were building socialism were thrown into great social and political turmoil and thus abandoned one after another the cause of socialism. The collapse of socialist countries in succession and the sudden death of President Kim Il Sung, catastrophic natural disasters that hit the country for consecutive years, and the intensifying offensives the imperialist allied forces aimed at the DPRK to stifle it-they were the worst ever trials socialist Korea had suffered so far. Despite the grimmest trials, the DPRK emerged victorious in its battle to defend socialism, and ushered in a new era of building a thriving socialist country.
Now it has attained the high levels of development and upholding of the national power, as it is being led by Kim Jong Un.
The DPRK has already occupied the position of a politico-ideological and military power, and its paving the way for building a powerful state in the fields of of the economy, science and technology, sport and others.
What makes the DPRK come into the limelight of the world is that, though in the past it had lost its name on the world political map owing to its weak national power, had development into a power with space technology and nuclear capabilities that in exclusive possession of only a few countries.
It is demonstrating its willpower ti root out the evil source in acute confrontation with the imperialist super power, which infringes upon the sovereignty of other countries and commits acts of aggression and intervention. It has become the object of admiration of the international community.
The esteemed name of President Kim Il Sung is a landmark event in the history of the Korean nation, which heralded the building of socialist Korea and led to its eternal prosperity. [kk]
