Peace and Prosperity on the Korean Peninsula
Geoffrey, Choson Exchange
I have been visiting DPR Korea since 2007 for over 40 trips bringing volunteers to run education programs in the country. In 2019, we were joined by an esteemed delegation that included Singapore’s ex-Foreign Minister George Yeo, his wife and fellow friends.
At the country’s leading Kim Il Sung University, George kindly shared his view, and I paraphrase, that DPR Korea has managed to safeguard its sovereignty through the upheavals of history. He expressed the view that DPRK seeks a peaceful resolution to the standoff between itself and the US in a way that does not compromise the country’s independence.
In my time in the country, I have gotten to know the importance the DPR Korea places on its independence. As the world enters a period of great change and uncertainty, I hope that the DPRK continues to secure its independence through innovation, agility and friendships around the world.
I wish the DPRK wholeheartedly progress on its mission for peace and prosperity for its people. I have met many people in the country who have impressed me with their determination for a better future despite the hardships in the way. I treasure their friendship and hope that we can continue building on this warm foundation of friendship.
